The Great Goal Post Scandal
Back in the 90’s playing against Carnegie, a point post was knocked out of the ground by Big Lancer. After a few lagers with the boys at their ground, Mick McCartin and myself flogged the point post and bought it back to our rooms where the festivities were continuing.
On arrival with the post some flack was given, “If we were to bring a post it should have been a goal post!”
Like a red rag to a bull that was half tanked, Mick and I returned to the ground and proceeded to pull the
Goal post out of the ground with the Hiace van covered with my employers details. We drove directly back to the club via Bourke St Camberwell and passed the batten on to the big man himself.
For training on the Tuesday Coach Army had the group carry the goal post on the jog by the entire team away from the club rooms as enquiries had already been made by Carnegie as to the where abouts of the post.
I believe that the point post is still under the club rooms signed by Lance because I believe that day he may have
Kicked 10, but I stand to be corrected about that.
